It was a long time coming but Keira Knightley and James McAvoy finally won something last night for their starring roles in the wartime epic Atonement. While it can hardly be put in the same class as the Oscars, Golden Globes and Baftas, collecting the best actor and best actress accolade in Empire magazine’s film awards at least breaks their duck.
Based on Ian McEwan’s novel, British director Joe Wright’s Atonement has been a huge hit.
Actress Keira Knightley is reportedly set to release her first album, a soundtrack for her upcoming film ‘The Edge of Love.’
The 22-year-old has previously admitted to taking singing lessons.
“I can’t really sing. I had to have a few lessons, but once I started doing it, a sound emerged that wasn’t too disagreeable,” Knightley said.
In the soundtrack will be released this summer to coincide with the release of the movie, which was written by Knightley’s mom Sharman Macdonald. ‘The Edge of Reason’ also stars Matthew Rhys and Sienna Miller.
Christopher Hampton (Academy Award winner for Dangerous Liaisons) wrote the screenplay adaptation of Ian McEwan’s best-selling 2002 novel Atonement. The film’s story spans several decades. In 1935, 13 year-old fledgling writer Briony Tallis (Saoirse Ronan) and her family live a life of wealth and privilege in their enormous mansion. On the warmest day of the year, the country estate takes on an unsettling hothouse atmosphere, stoking Briony’s vivid imagination. Robbie Turner (James McAvoy), the educated son of the family’s housekeeper, carries a torch for Briony’s headstrong older sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley). When his and Cecelia’s romance finally does spark, Briony – who has a crush on Robbie – is compelled to interfere, going so far as accusing Robbie of a crime he did not commit.
Cecilia and Robbie declare their love for each other, but he is arrested – and with Briony bearing false witness, the course of three lives is changed forever. Briony continues to seek forgiveness for her childhood misdeed. Through a terrible and courageous act of imagination, she finds the path to her uncertain atonement, and to an understanding of the power of enduring love.

KEIRA Knightley believes some Aborigines are right when it comes to photographs but she has obviously never seen Crocodile Dundee .
The British actress revealed she hates having her photograph taken, saying she agrees with “Australian Aborigines” who think it takes away the soul.
The common tourist’s assumption all Aborigines hold such beliefs is famously ridiculed in Crocodile Dundee when David Gulpilil’s character Neville tells Linda Kozlowski she cannot take his photograph.
Asked if it is because it will take his spirit away, Gulpilil deadpans: “No, you’ve got the lens cap on”.
Knightley seems destined to make the same mistake if she ever finds herself visiting Australia in similar circumstances, because most modern Aborigines do not observe such taboos, which are more common to the indigenous cultures of Africa.
Indigenous art curator Djon Mundine, who recently staged an exhibition of photographs of Aboriginal men at Campbelltown Arts Centre, said some deeply traditional communities still felt uncomfortable being photographed. (Read the rest of this entry..)
Miss Knightley, who has described her naturally small breasts as ‘pecs’, has confessed that her busty transformation is all down to make-up.
The slightly built 22-year-old Atonement actress shot to worldwide fame in the blockbuster Pirates Of The Caribbean - with breasts spilling over the tight corset she wore in the role of Elizabeth Swann.
But it was all an illusion, made possible by the film-studio art of “bosom make-up”. It is a skill from Hollywood’s golden age that fell out of favour with the advent of silicone enhancement.
Miss Knightley said: “They painted my t**s on me for the films, which is extraordinary because it’s kind of a dying art form - in the past, they used to have whole sections of the studios devoted to bosom make-up.
“And I loved it, completely loved it. Because it was the first time in my life I had big t**s, and I didn’t even need surgery.’
